Origin of classical ballet
The origin of classical ballet is relatively modern, since dance has been throughout our history. In the past, it was used for rituals or to celebrate certain events or achievements.
But, this has been evolving, achieving rhythm, movement and coming to express our feelings. So, How was the classical ballet born? It has a great history and we have to take into account the dates, but we are going to detail the most important parts of this great art.
When was classical ballet created?
The origin of the ballet dates back to Italy in the renaissance, between 1400 and 1600, during the reign of Louis XIV. During this time the need to professionalize this type of dance arose and it was in 1661 when the first dance school originated, the academia Royale de la Danse.
As we can see, it was at this time when the dance wanted to evolve, but it has not been years after all these choreographys and steps coded if the type of dance that we now know each other.
Who created classical ballet?
Now we must talk about the original creators and those who promoted the origin of the ballet. These were R.A. Feuillet, who published the first choreography called "Choréographie ou Art de noter la danse" where for the first time in 1700 it is possible to reproduce all the codified steps, achieving a complete dance.
But, until 1725, all these techniques previously proposed were not perfected, all this thanks to P. Rameau, thanks to his "Traité Maître"
It was already at the end of the 17th century, in France, when the "Royale de Musique" academy was founded, at the Paris opera. This was the first professional company and began to offer more continuous performances, gaining a great reputation.
In this way, the public could enjoy this beautiful dance and it became popular, reaching the great halls and theaters.
What was the first classical ballet?
Although the origin of the ballet is Italian, the first dance is not. This was done in Paris in honor of the Polish ambassador who was visiting the city. So, in 1573, Catalina de Medici performed one of the most classic and perhaps most important pieces of this dance, the "Ballet des Polonais".
This boosted this dance style more strongly and it was years later that the academies began to be founded, as we have commented before.
This style is characterized not only by having origins and a history of the richest, but because it is a way of externalizing our emotions and feelings. All with a great artistic expression that makes it unique. They came to dazzle the audience and the hearts of those who wanted to improve themselves.
Today, it has left us some pieces recognized worldwide in the origin of ballet and that we have all heard at some point, such as "Swan Lake", "Sleeping Beauty" and "The Nutcracker".
